The Colca Canyon tour offers the opportunity to see and explore the most beautiful areas of the Southern Peru. This itinerary offers stunning scenery and great opportunities to see and photograph Condors in the wild. There were two ethnic groups called the Collaguas and the Cabanas who inhabited the area. The Incas also occupied the area for a short time. The Collaguas were an industrious and prosperous people, and the terraces throughout the canyon indicate their agricultural and architectural skills. The Incas conquered the Colca region in the middle of the 15th century, and one of Inca Mayta Capac’s generals married the ñusta Mama Yacchi.
The Colca Canyon covers 100 km, and the average distance from the peaks to the mountains and rivers below is 3400 meters. Until recently, it was thought that Colca Canyon was the deepest canyon in the world, although it is now generally accepted that the Cotahuasi Canyon, also in the department of Arequipa, is deeper. The depth of the canyon from the Cruz Del Condor to the river is approximately 1500 meters. The deepest point of the canyon is located beyond Cabanaconde, close to the Valley of the Volcanoes.
Transfer from Arequipa airport/ bus station to Casa de la Abuela Hotel. Free morning. In the afternoon we will have the city tour and then our guide gives us an orientation about the Colca Canyon Trek 3 days tour.
Overnight at Casa de la Abuela Hotel
After our early breakfast, passengers will be pick up by the guide and transfer to the bus station. a board the bus to Cabanaconde. After a 5 hours approximately of travel, will arrive to Cabanaconde town. We will have our lunch.
We will start our trek descend to 1200 masl. Towards the colca river, take a detour to we can observe géiseres (thermal fountain to erupt periodically) by the river. We will continue our hiking at about 5 hours, arrival to Llahuar community, to enjoy the hot spring and also is possible to fish. Overnight.
Then our breakfast will be continue our hike by the valley between up and down will arrive to Oasis. We´ll have our lunch. In the afternoon will enjoy of warm water pool. Dinner and Overnight.
Wake up early to start to hike and ascend by the world´s deepest canyon, it takes at about 3 hours. Arrive to Cabanaconde to take breakfast and take the bus to cross the condor, place that we can observe the fascinating flight of the condors and the canyon deep. Then bus back to Chivay. It´s optional to go Calera hot spring (38º C of temperature). Return to Arequipa.
Overnight at Casa de la Abuela hotel
After breakfast, transfer to the bus station / airport.
