Salkantay - MachuPicchu 5 Days

Tour Description

Day 01.- Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa (L – D)

At 07:00 departure in private transport to Mollepata, small village located in 2800 m./9,186 ft. beautiful scenic journey through Limatambo, and stops for panoramic views of the Apurimac Valley, Cultural tour in Tarawasi, impressive "Ushnu" Inka Ceremonial Stone Stage to appreciate represented flowers in the Inka walls.
After we arrive to our trailhead, we meet our arrieros "horsemen" and trek staff, 6 hrs hiking through traditional Andean communities like Cruzpata, Challacancha , unspoiled Andean villages to Soraypampa 3800 m./12,467 ft., our first camp.

Day 02.- Soraypampa – Chaullay (B – L – D)

After an early breakfast at about 7:30am we start the hike for 4 hours to start our ascent to the Pass 4650 m./15,255 ft. from this point we can appreciate the special views of the Mountain Salkantay, a stunning snow capped mountain (6272 m./20,577 ft.), 3 hours walking with spectacular views of the mountains Humantay and Huayanay, small lakes and morraines, then long downhill walk to Camp in Chaullay 2950 m./9,678 ft.

Day 03.- Chaullay – Playa (B – L – D)

After a good breakfast we walk down river to Playa, on the way we will enjoy the nice tropical jungle and the nice Salkantay River and we can see coffee trees, banana trees and other fruits, including some pretty orquids and the beautiful scenery, we stop for lunching in Lluscamayu where we enjoy apart from our lunch the delicious granadilla (passion fruit), then we continue walking until Playa, is the biggest village on the way, where we can find some small shops to buy snack etc. In this area we can see small plantations of coffee and bananas. Overnight.

Day 04.- Playa – Santa Teresa – Aguas Caliente (B – L – D)

Early in the morning after our breakfast we take a public bus for going to Santa Teresa then we can continue walking to the Hydroelectric of Machu Picchu, where we have our lunch, waiting for the train. At afternoon we take the train to Aguas Calientes where we overnight in a nice hostel, if you want you can go to the Hot springs by your own.

Day 05.- Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco (B)

After having our nice breakfast in our hostel, we take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu, after picking our entrance tickets up at the control; we visit the famous archaeological site of South America and now the New Wonder of the Earth, the tour usually takes 2-3 hours, after the guided tour you can spend some hours to visit and enjoy the place by yourself. After your nice experience in Machu Picchu, you have to return to the village of Aguas Calientes, for getting in on your train back to Cusco. And finally we pick up you at the train station to your Hotel.
